Frequently asked questions.
Everything worth knowing about Curtyn. If your question is not here, reach out and we will be happy to help.
What is Curtyn?
Curtyn is one workspace for video and photo productions. You build a project, add the tools you need — scriptwriter, breakdown, shotlist, storyboard, budget, schedule, file review and more — and your crew, clients and collaborators work in it alongside you. When it is time to hand something over, you send a clean, controlled share link or export a PDF.
Who is Curtyn for?
Curtyn is built for freelance creatives, small studios, and production companies. Think videographers, photographers, designers, and creative agencies. If you work with clients and need a clean way to plan a production, collaborate, and share work, Curtyn is for you.
Is Curtyn available right now?
Curtyn is currently in closed beta. We are refining the experience and working closely with a small group of early users. Open sign-ups are paused for now, but you can explore the features and pricing on this site to see what is available and what is coming.
How can I get access to the beta?
Right now, access is by invitation only. Request access from the home page and we will be in touch when a spot opens. We will also announce when the beta opens up more broadly on the updates page.
What is the difference between a project and a share?
A project is the workspace you build inside Curtyn: every tool, file and list, with full editing. A share is a controlled, read-only view of part or all of that project. You send a share as a link, and whoever opens it sees only what you chose to include.
Do the people I share with need an account?
No. You send a link, they open it. No sign-up, no login, no password to remember. They see a clean, read-only view of exactly what you shared.
Can I share links however I want?
Yes. You get a link and share it however works best for you. iMessage, WhatsApp, email, Slack, or anything else. Curtyn gives you the link and gets out of the way.
Do shared links work on mobile?
Yes. Anything you share opens in the browser on any device, whether that is a phone, a tablet, or a desktop.
Can I control what people can do with a share?
Yes. Lock a share behind a passphrase, set an expiry date, turn downloads on or off, and apply a watermark over the media. You decide exactly what each link allows.
What tools are available right now?
Curtyn ships with more than 15 tools. They include a scriptwriter, script breakdown, shotlist, storyboard, equipment, cast and crew lists, budget, shooting schedule, locations, weather, mood boards, video review, photo galleries, an audio player, a slideshow, a rich text editor, and file storage. Call sheets, invoicing and a few others are in development.
What video formats are supported?
Curtyn handles all the common video formats — MP4, MOV, WebM, AVI and MKV — along with professional formats like ProRes and MXF. After upload, large videos are transcoded on our servers so they stream smoothly for everyone you share them with.
Can people leave feedback on a cut?
Yes. Video review lets anyone you share with leave comments and drawn annotations on the exact frame. You can compare versions side by side and track a review status — needs review, in progress, changes requested, approved — on every file.
How do photo galleries work?
Upload your stills and present them in a grid or carousel. You can organise them with colour labels and star ratings as you sort through a shoot, and share a gallery with the same controlled links as everything else.
What features are coming next?
We are working on call sheets, invoicing, e-signatures and contracts, time tracking, team chat, and analytics. Check the features page for the full breakdown of what is live today and what is on the way.
Will there be invoicing?
Yes. Invoicing is one of the features we are building. It will include line items, VAT support, and shareable payment links.
Will there be e-signatures?
Yes. Contracts with e-signatures are in development. You will be able to create contracts, add signers, and let people sign directly in a share with a full audit trail.
Will I be able to use my own branding?
Yes — you already can. Add your logo and a watermark to the work you share. More branding controls are on the way.
Is there a free tier?
Yes. The free tier lets you run one of your own projects plus one project you have been invited to. It includes 5 GB of storage and every tool that ships at launch. It is a real free tier, not a time-limited trial.
How much does Curtyn Pro cost?
Curtyn Pro is still in development. We have not announced a price yet. If you want to know the moment Pro is ready, drop your email on the pricing page and we will reach out.
What will Curtyn Pro include?
We are building on what is in Curtyn today to make collaboration on video productions more capable. We are not sharing a dated feature list yet, but you can join the waitlist on the pricing page to hear it first.
Where is my data stored?
Curtyn uses Supabase with PostgreSQL for data storage and cloud storage for files and videos. Your data is backed up regularly and stored securely.
Is Curtyn mobile-friendly?
The workspace is built for desktop and works well on tablets, with an on-set capture mode for phones. Anything you share opens on any device with a browser.
